Welcome to the Youth Hiking Club-Cary (YHCC), where teens age 13-18 can connect to explore NC through hiking and other outdoor activities! YHCC was founded by Jennifer Krause, a dedicated youth advocate, and her son, Max, a hiker, backpacker, and nature lover. Our club is more than just a hiking group - it’s a safe and inclusive community built on Positive Youth Development (PYD) theory and Youth Empowerment. Jen and Max created this club with a vision: Inspire young people to step outside and discover the personal and collective power that comes from engaging with each other and the great outdoors. With years of experience in program development, we structure hikes to be FUN while fostering teamwork, self-exploration, and growth. We believe in the transformative benefits of outdoor adventure not just for physical health, but for social, emotional, and mental health as well.
From beginner-friendly nature walks to more ambitious overnight treks, we provide a range of hiking and outdoor experiences designed to meet the interests and skill levels of our members. Weekend hikes are offered during the fall, winter, and spring. During the summer months, we also host several hiking camps as well. YHCC provides a great opportunity for teens to visit different trails, meet new friends, experience personal growth, and disconnect from everyday stress. Hikes vary in intensity and include moments for reflection, skill-building, and fun.
